Quick answer
Singapore-registered cars
Since 1 July 2025, individual and private company car owners need a VEP to drive into Malaysia.
Driving in without one
You may be fined MYR 300, and must pay it and register the VEP before you can leave Malaysia.
Where to apply
Online on the official JPJ VEP portal, vep.jpj.gov.my.
How to register
- Register your car on the official JPJ VEP portal.
- Get the VEP RFID tag fitted. Foreign vehicles must register online and install an RFID tag before entering Malaysia.
- If you need to go in person, book an appointment on the portal first. Appointments are required.
In-person VEP centres in Johor (appointment only)
- TCSens VEP Collection Centre: G Floor, Block 6, Danga Bay, Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru
- Paradigm Mall: Car Park Level 7, Skudai Highway, Johor Bahru
- Sunway Big Box Retail Park: Lower Ground Floor, West Wing, Sunway City, Iskandar Puteri
Paying a VEP fine
A Singapore-registered car found in Malaysia without a VEP may be fined MYR 300. Pay at JPJ counters, JPJ Mobile counters or online through MyEG, then register the VEP before you leave. Not doing so may lead to prosecution or further penalties.
Not the same as Singapore's VEP
Malaysian-registered vehicles entering Singapore need Singapore's own Vehicle Entry Permit, a separate scheme run by LTA on OneMotoring. Before you drive, check Woodlands and Tuas checkpoint traffic.
